Beyond the Pir Panjal: Life and Missionary Enterprise in Kashmir by Ernest F. Neve

Dr Ernest Neve worked for decades at the mission hospital in Srinagar. His book describes the valley and its mountains, the people who came to the hospital from every corner of Kashmir, and the work of doctors during epidemics of cholera and plague.

About this book
Ernest Neve and his brother Arthur ran the Kashmir Mission Hospital at Drogjan in Srinagar, which treated thousands of patients a year. Ernest was also a keen mountaineer, and the book moves between the wards and the high passes.
First published in 1912, this 1915 edition was issued by the Church Missionary Society. Alongside its missionary purpose, it records a great deal about health, village life and travel in Kashmir in the early 1900s.
