Where Three Empires Meet by E. F. Knight

The journalist E. F. Knight travelled through Kashmir to Ladakh, Baltistan and Gilgit in 1891, and found himself caught up in the British expedition against Hunza and Nagar. His account of the journey and the campaign was one of the most popular travel books of its day.

About this book
Knight set out as a traveller and correspondent, crossing from Srinagar into Ladakh and then north to Gilgit, where the frontiers of the British, Russian and Chinese empires came together, hence the title.
He describes the country and people along the way and gives a first-hand account of the fighting in Hunza and Nagar in December 1891. The book is a good picture of the northern frontier at the height of the 'Great Game'.
