About this book
William Moorcroft set out in 1819 to find horses for the East India Company and to open trade with Central Asia. The first volume covers his years in Ladakh and Kashmir; this second volume follows the party across Afghanistan to Bukhara.
Moorcroft, Trebeck and most of their companions died on the return journey. Their papers were later edited by the orientalist H. H. Wilson and published in 1841. Volume I, with the chapters on Ladakh and Kashmir, is also in the Library.
