About this book
Shabistari wrote the poem in reply to questions sent by a Sufi of Khorasan about the nature of thought, the self, the journey to God and the meaning of the imagery of wine, the beloved and the tavern in Sufi poetry.
Short, dense and much loved, the Gulshan-i-Raz was read and taught across the Persian-speaking world, including Kashmir. Whinfield's edition prints the Persian and English side by side.
